Welcome to a little piece of what is Laura Quiñones. Other than being a mother, wife, friend, foil fencer and compulsive shoe shopper, I spend most of my free time trying to create really unique jewelry.
I received my BFA in Metals and Graphic Design at the University of Texas in El Paso. Since 1992, as an independent studio jewelry designer I have been designing and hand fabricating unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry. Sheet metal and wire are the foundation to my jewelry.
My pieces incorporate different sources of color from gemstones, resin, enamel and powder coating. My designs revolve around the intriguing relationship between metal and color, and I am constantly pushing for unusual ways to manipulate them both.
I utilize basic hand tools to complete the majority of the metal work including carving , stone setting, and patinas. I have called San Antonio, Texas home since 1998 and it is here where I've established a relationship with private clients, galleries and jewelry shops that appreciate my creations by celebrating the hand of the artist rather than the market value of the material.
